Welcome the New Year!

All cards were randomized before these drawings with four decks being used. Three cards were repeated this month: the Magician, the Wheel of Fortune, and the Seven of Swords. If we look at these five cards as indicators of a collective reading, it might be, “Be careful to follow the letter of the law, and good professional practice, in order to make your career.”

The Fire signs are depicted by The Ukiyoe Tarot (1982) created by Koji Furuta and published by U.S. Games Systems, Inc. (The 1988 edition is currently available.) The Earth signs are shown by the Encore Tarot (2019) created by Ciro Marchetti and available at www.ciromarchetti.com.  (The Encore Tarot is reviewed elsewhere in this issue of Tarot Reflections.) The Air signs are represented using the Today’s Journey Tarot (2011) created by Chris Wilkey and published by Schiffer. Water Signs are shown by the Mystical Cats Tarot (2014), created by Lunaea Weatherstone, with art by Mickie Mueller, and published by Llewellyn. 

I choose various decks to illustrate each month’s drawings so as to show the versatility and variety of tarot, to emphasize a particular season or sign, and because some are my favorites. 

Aries: 

The Wheel of Fortune and the Seven of Swords: 

Dear Aries, everything has been focused on your work for a while. The good news is that your hard work is going to pay off! However both cards drawn for this month are cautionary. The Wheel of Fortune reminds us that what goes up will come down again. The Seven of Swords is telling us to comply with the law and customs of trade when making deals with others. Cutting corners will work out poorly for you.

Taurus: 

The Magician and the King of Coins/Pentacles:

Dear Taurus, it looks like a month of hard work and business travel as is fitting for your high position at work. What’s missing? Your love life and your creative life. You have been very busy making points at work. You need to continue working hard this month. Make hay while the sun is shining. Next month may not be as favorable for work as what you have now.

Gemini: 

Control/The Chariot and the Nine of Earth/Pentacles:

Dear Gemini, this is a good month to apply for a loan, if you need one. You are in tune with others’ finances and may find yourself having to assist others with their money or possessions. Your tendency is to flit about and spend time with many people, yet January brings you more solitude and more responsibilities.   

Cancer: 

The High Priestess and the Seven of Sky/Swords:

Dear Cancer, you have the High Priestess again, repeated from December. You have a connection to the High Priestess as she is associated with the Moon, your ruling planet. She is also an indicator of altered states of consciousness and dreams. Take time this month to be alone and to allow your inner visions to be revealed. Art work is one way to do this. There is a lot your inner self is trying to say to you. Listen.

Leo:

Death and the Nine of Swords:

Dear Leo, you have some fears at this time. Things in your home, and your partnership are doing better than you think. Yes, it’s always smart to have savings set aside for home repairs or other emergencies, but your fears are far more than any difficulties at this time. If you want to sell your home or move, this is a good time to leave your old residence behind.

Virgo: 

The Star and the Ten of Cups: 

Dear Virgo, what a month of goodness, good feelings and good things! Expect good health news too, as you are the most attentive to your health and good habits of any sign. You are filled with warm feelings. All relationships should go well. If you are looking for a new love, that part is good, too! Enjoy your blessings!

Libra:

Manifestation/The Magician and the Fire of Fire/Wands:

Dear Libra, you have some family issues as well as home repairs or renovation to attend to. You also have plenty of work to do. It looks like this is a month of working hard and getting modest rewards for that work. Avoid picking any fights. Stand down. The advantage is in your opponent’s favor.

Scorpio: 

Consequences/Justice and the Seven of Fire/Wands:

Dear Scorpio, a lot is going on in and around your life. There are some important matters you won’t be looped in with until the 20^th. You are very busy earning money and attending to a new health regimen to overcome your indulgences over the holiday season. As always, no matter how much you want revenge, play it straight.

Sagittarius: 

The Empress and the Seven of Cups:

Dear Sagittarius, your attentions this month are focused on your home and family. Beauty is important to you at this time. Consider getting the services of a professional decorator if you are redecorating or renovating. As always, avoid scattering your energy if you want to accomplish your goals.

Capricorn: 

The World and the Two of Cups: 

Dear Capricorn, rewards are coming your way. They aren’t flashy rewards, but they will be satisfying nonetheless. Whatever you have been working on for years is going to pay off. Your plan is fulfilled. And in addition to that, love is in the air. You will find a kindred soul at this time if you want one. 

Aquarius: 

Life/The Wheel of Fortune and the Six of Fire/Wands:

Dear Aquarius, life has its ups and downs. Right now you have one or more secret benefactors working behind the scenes in your favor. This is your month to win at what you do. Enjoy the highs at this time, but prepare for the inevitable turn of fate as the wheel turns.  

Pisces: 

The Moon and the Ten of Pentacles:

Dear Pisces, this is looking like a month of quiet enjoyment of your life’s earnings and your family. You are especially in tune with yourself. You look good and feel good. Family are a source of comfort and resources for you. Your friends are many. If you want to you could go out with friends almost every night. But that’s too much for you. Enjoy your friends in limited doses.

 

You can use these Tarot Scopes to read your Sun sign, Moon sign or Rising Sign (also called your Ascendant). You can determine these by using free or low cost apps, or internet sites, and inputting your time, date and place of birth. The Rising sign indicates your entire life; the Sun sign is about your ego and creative forces, and the Moon sign is about your reigning needs, emotions, and flexibility.

The tarot cards used as illustrations for this column are ones that I or the editor, Terri Clement, admire and want to share with you. Note that decks have subtle differences of meaning as they are reinterpreted by a new creator/artist, and, of course, the tarot reader. Enjoy that flexibility of meaning and the artwork of these various decks. Reading articles with illustrations like these will help you determine the tarot decks that most fit you.
