The Everyday Enchantment Tarot by Poppy Palin is a modern, colorful deck that is filled with movement.

The book and deck are housed in a gradient sunshine colored heavy-duty cardboard box with a magnetic closer. The box has a red ribbon pull tab and stays. The deck, divided in half and sits in recesses inside the box. The stacks of cards are held together with a plastic sleeve.

The matte cards are large measuring in at almost 3 7/8” wide x 5 ½” tall. Those who riffle-bridge shuffle may need to alter their technique with this deck. The card backs are an explosion of color featuring flowers, moths, berries, snails, and more. The cards backs are reversible friendly.

The Courts are Page, Knight, Queen, and King. The suits are Wands, Coins, Cups, and Blades. Strength is numbered 8 and Justice is 11 in the book, but the Majors are not numbered on the cards. The Majors borders are black, Wands borders are done in red, Coins are green, cups are blue, and Blades are purple.

Though the images are contemporary they do follow the Rider-Waite-Smith tradition. For example, the Empress is standing in her modern colorful kitchen, arms outstretched. She is reaching for a child and a dog that are in the foreground. Like the RWS traditional Empress, she is wearing a floral print dress though it is a current day style. The book is well put together. It provides a good deal of information. The book features one of my favorite things, the artist's thoughts about their image.

The Star and Temperance cards also are a very good example of the modern twist on this RWS styled deck.

This deck and book set would make a wonderful first deck, but could be useful all the way through the professional reader.
